Sheikh Adil Edrisi is working as an Assistant Professor at the Thapar School of Liberal Arts & Sciences (TSLAS), Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology in Patiala, India. He pursued his Doctoral Research at the Institute of Environment and Sustainable Development (IESD), Banaras Hindu University in Varanasi, India. His research is focused on utilizing geospatial modeling to systematically classify and explore the marginal and degraded lands for their efficient management in producing various value-added bioproducts, including biomass and bioenergy, regaining ecosystem services, and attaining multiple UN-SDGs for a sustainable future. He has screened different multipurpose plant species and developed a novel polyculture zonation technique. He suggests exploring and utilizing indigenous, fast-growing, multipurpose, climate-adaptive plant species to restore degraded lands. He is particularly interested in soil quality indexing, restoration ecology, and emergy-based product sustainability assessment for policy outline. In line with the recognition for his work, he has been awarded the prestigious Green Talents Award-2019 by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), Germany. He has also been awarded the National Travel Grant (DST-SERB) to present his research work abroad (Slovenia, Europe) and awarded the NASI-Springer Award-2018 from the National Academy of Science, India (NASI). He is currently handling a Special Issue, "Restoring Degraded Lands to Attain UN-SDGs" as a Guest Editor in Land, MDPI and also an active Reviewer Board Member of leading journals subjectively focussing on the Land Degradation, Restoration, Cleaner and Greener Productions such as Land, Resourcesand Plants (MDPI). He has also been recognized as a Review Editor of Frontiers in Energy Research and also reviewing for various International peer-reviewed journals of various prestigious publishers like Elsevier, Wiley, Nature Publishing Group, Springer, Plos, Cell Press, Taylor & Francis. He is also contributing to International Reports, particularly the Global Status Report of Renewable Energy Policy Network of 21st Century (REN21+). He also co-authored the "Land Restoration for Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals: An International Resource Panel Think Piece" by IRP-UNEP and serving as an active member of GLP, ISDS, ISPRS, GSBI and IUCN Commissions (CEM, CEC, and CEESP) for tackling global challenges in sustainability.
