Samuel is a rural development professional. Over the past 12 years, he has been a Programme Officer/Technical specialist at UNDP, FAO, IFAD and BATU, programming for agriculture and rural development. He has worked both in Uganda and Mozambique where he designed and coordinated programmes targeting the enhancement of agriculture production and productivity, sustainable natural resources management, agricultural value chains development and climate change adaptation. In Uganda, he has been actively involved in sectoral policy formulation, particularly contributing to regulatory impact assessments and the drafting of the National Organic Agriculture Policy, Climate change policy and the Climate Change Adaptation Framework for the Agriculture Sector. Currently, Samuel is a technical specialist at UNDP and supports African countries to scale up adaptation ambition and action in the land use and agriculture sectors through NDCs and NAPs. Concurrently, he is undertaking a PhD research at the Department of Earth and Environmental Studies, KU Leuven. His research focuses on spatial analysis and future scenario modelling of rural-urban interactions and land use changes. He holds an International Master’s of Science in Rural Development from Ghent University, Belgium and a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from Makerere University Kampala, Uganda. Samuel’s career objective is to leverage his expertise and effectively contribute to rural development and poverty reduction.
