Spatially explicit urban ecology My research focuses on the characterization of the spatial structure of land features, its changes and implications across time, employing geoinformatics (remote sensing and GIS based on programming workflows). I analyze large amounts of multitemporal spatial data in order to understand local, regional and global processes of change derived from human pressures. In particular: (1) Urban form, based on spatial metrics, (2) the urban heat island effect, (3) land cover change, mainly focused on deforestation in tropical countries, (3) development of tools to analyze large amounts of spatial data and (4) assessment of the accuracy of spatial data.
