Navin Ramankutty is Professor and Canada Research Chair in Global Environmental Change and Food Security at the School of Public Policy and Global Affairs and the Institute for Resources, Environment, and Sustainability at the University of British Columbia. His research addresses issues at the interface of agricultural land use, environmental change, and food security. His team uses global data analysis and models to examine the potential contributions of different farming systems and different interventions in the food system to addressing our sustainable food challenges. Ultimately, his research aims to identify solutions to the challenge of feeding humanity with minimal environmental footprint. He contributed to the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment report and to the Fourth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. He was an editor of the journal Global Food Security and Global Ecology and Biogeography, and is an Associate Editor of Environmental Research Letters and LAND. He is a Leopold Leadership Fellow.
