Graduated in 1989 from the National Taiwan University in Geography, worked for the Council of Agriculture and the Taroko National Park in Taiwan from 1991 to 1997, got Ph.D. degree in the Geography Department of University College London in 2001, and currently an associate professor of National Dong-Hwa University, Taiwan. From 2002, he has been the leader of the Landscape Conservation and Community Participation Research Lab and carried out about 30 research projects which mainly focused on community participation, natural and cultural landscape conservation, collaborative planning and management of protected areas. He is currently a commission member of IUCN/WCPA, ICOMOS, ProGEO as well as the IPSI (International Partnership for the Satoyama Initiative) contact person of National Dong-Hwa University.
