Jefferson Fox is a Senior Fellow and Director of Research at the East-West Center in Honolulu. His work examines the social context of spatial information technology as it is used to help local communities map and manage their natural resources. He has been instrumental in establishing GIS/remote sensing laboratories in numerous universities and organizations across the Asia/Pacific region. Dr. Fox has co-edited several books including People and the Environment: Approaches for Linking Household and Community Surveys to Remote Sensing and GIS (Kluwer Academic Press, 2003). His current research projects include ‘Forest, agricultural, and urban transitions in Mainland Southeast Asia: Synthesizing knowledge and developing theory’; and ‘Community-based forest management within a globalized economy: Examining local and distant drivers of forest cover change in the Middle Hills of Nepal.’ Both projects are funded by NASA. He has worked in Bangladesh, Cambodia, China (Yunnan), Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Nepal, Thailand and Vietnam. He speaks Nepali and Bahasa Indonesia.
