Positions and Appointments
Dr. Gete Zeleke is currently Director of the Water and Land Resources Center in Ethiopia and Adj. Professor at EiABC of AAU on landscape planning – Joint appointment. He is also member of the International Resource Panel (IRP) of UNEA and he is contributing author of the Land and Soils-II and Food Systems Report of IRP. Prior his current position he was African Coordinator for Global Mountain Programme (GMP) of the CGIAR Centers, Addis Ababa and was the founder and Director General of Amhara Regional Agricultural Research Institute (ARARI), Bahir Dar Ethiopia.
Education and professional experience
Gete Zeleke got his PhD in 2000 on Natural Resources Management, at University of Bern, Switzerland and his MSc in 1993 on Soil and Water Management, at Wageningen University, The Netherlands, his BSc in 1986 on Agricultural Engineering, at Alemaya University, Ethiopia. He has over 25 years of professional experience from assignments in natural resources management and rural development in Ethiopia and Sub-Saharan Africa on both research and practical development works. His current research focusses on landscape transformation, hydro-sedimentology and sustainable land management. He has also solid experience on leadership in leading national and international programmes and organizations.
