Douglas A. Shoemaker is a landscape ecologist and geospatial analyst investigating urbanization and its impact on socio-ecological systems. He is also Director of Research and Outreach at the Center for Applied GIScience at UNC Charlotte. Co-developer of the FUTURES urbanization model, Shoemaker employs integrative modeling of "Big" spatial data to explore spatio-temporal dynamics that link human and environmental systems, thereby contributing to the resolution of pressing global resource and sustainability dilemmas.
