CSIR-Pool Scientist
Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Lucknow, India
Vimal Chandra Pandey is an Environmental Botanist, Internationally recognized in the area of "Phytomanagement of Fly Ash / Polluted sites". He is trained in sustainable phytoremediation and restoration technologies from Dr. RML Avadh University, Faizabad; Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar (Central) University, Lucknow and National Botanical Research Institute, Lucknow. His pioneering research and development on “Sustainable phytoremediation” have led to the extension of phytoremediation beyond its traditional application. After Ph.D. more than 10 years’ experience as applied research on multifarious aspects of ‘Environmental Remediation and Management’ including phytoremediation / revegetation / restoration of fly ash basins, Red mud dumpsites, coal mine spoils, other degraded lands through ecologically and socio-economically valuable plants with least risk, minimum input and low maintenance for fostering environmental sustainability (maintaining ecosystem services and raising rural livelihoods). He is a recipient of a number of awards / honors / fellowships such as the CSTUP-Young Scientist award, the DST SERB-Young scientist award, the UGC-Dr. DS Kothari Postdoctoral Fellowship, and the CSIR-Senior Research Associateship and a member (MNASc) of National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI), and a Commission Member of IUCN-CEM Ecosystem Restoration. His research interest lies on growing biomass on degraded lands (marginal land, polluted land and waste dumpsites) for linking biobased economy and restoration programs, Phytomanagement of polluted lands for regaining ecosystem services, Climate-Resilient Phytoremediation, Exploring industrial crop-based phytoremediation to attain bioeconomy security and restoration, Adaptive Bioremediation Practices, Phytoremediation based Biofortification, Carbon sequestration in polluted lands, Bioremediation for utilizing polluted lands and attaining UN-SDGs. He is sitting on the Editorial board of the leading journals such as: Associate Editor, Environment, Development and Sustainability, Springer (Impact Factor=2.191); Board Member, Bulletin of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology, Springer (Impact Factor=1.657); Guest Editor, Energy, Ecology and Environment, Springer; Guest Editor, Bulletin of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology, Springer. He is also serving as a Subject Expert for a number of journals from Elsevier, Springer, Wiley, Taylor and Francis, and others as well as the Panel Member for Academy Council of the Czech Academy of Sciences for the Evaluation of Research and Professional Activities. Journal Special Issues Currently Open for Submission (1) Green Technologies for Soil Remediation, Bulletin of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology, Impact Factor=1.657, Springer (Submission deadline 31 March 2021); (2) Fostering bioremediation for utilizing polluted lands and attaining UN-SDGs Energy, Ecology and Environment, Springer (Submission deadline 30 June 2021).
