My research focuses on agricultural expansion dynamics, and in particular on "crop booms". I use mixed-methods analysis to understand the conjuncture of triggers, drivers, contextual factors, and social and behavioral dynamics at work in agricultural frontiers. I conducted my phd work in northern Laos. More generally, I am interested in farmers and farming, the functioning of markets and other insitutions through the supply chain, and questions of livelihood vulnerablity and sustainable resource use.
