Ornetsmüller
Land system scientist and facilitator
Independent
Christine Ornetsmüller completed her PhD in land system science in September 2019 at the Institute for Environmental Studies (IVM), Free (VU) University Amsterdam. In her dissertation, she worked on various ways to improve the representation of human aspects and decision making in land use analysis and modelling. She focused on crop booms in Laos, a phenomenon triggering land use regime shifts. Her methodological expertise includes GIS, spatial statistics and modelling, digital and analogue modelling, serious game design, workshop facilitation, Theory U.
Her research interests in general are socio-ecological systems, but she is currently particularly interested in social dynamics that contribute to the speed with which crop booms emerge. Furthermore, she is curious to explore how to co-create knowledge in transdisciplinary teams. Feel free to get in touch if you are interested to exchange about these topics.
Christine worked for Commonland (www.commonland.com) in 2018/2019, where she facilitated knowledge exchange through online and offline spaces for practitioners of holistic landscape restoration globally. Currently, she works as a GIS consultant to integrate large spatial datasets for Rijkswaterstaat, the Dutch executive agency for the ministry of water management and infrastructure. Next to this, Christine is member of the ‘harvest of tomorrow’ (www.oogstvanmorgen.net) – a large multi-stakeholder network that co-creates systemic approaches for a sustainable food and agricultural system in the Netherlands.
