Technology competition to support land use planning

The Group on Earth Observation Land Degradation Neutrality (GEO-LDN) Initiative, in collaboration with the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), have launched a technology innovation competition for the development of a software to support the integration of Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN) into land-use planning at different levels, including national, regional and local. This opportunity may be of interest to members of the Global Land Programme.

To learn more about the competition, kindly visit the competition’s webpage or see the UNCCD’s press release on the competition.

The timeframe for the submission of the initial concept by the participants is very tight (August 31st), but the organization has in place mechanisms to facilitate matchmaking between technical partners/ software developers and interested (sub)national level actors (i.e. data users), so this could greatly expedite engagement. The final tool should be completed by January and the award ceremony will take place in February 2021.
