From the leads of the Land product validation (LPV) subgroup of the NASA CEOS Working Group on Calibration and Validation (WGCV):
We are currently working on updating the global Land Cover and Land Cover Change Validation protocol. This includes the following thematic areas/chapters: definitions, probability sampling (including sampling and response design, and analysis components), types and sources of reference data, examples of validation efforts, challenges and future opportunities.
We are looking for leads and contributors for the different chapters and sub-chapters. Contributors are not expected to write long chapters on their own. Chapter leads will be responsible for assigning short sub-sections (1-2 pages) to contributors and harmonizing the contributions. This is a voluntary community project, and we appreciate everyone’s time.
The tentative outline of the new Land Cover and Land Cover Change Validation protocol is available here. Please, contact Sophie Bontemps from Université catholique de Louvain (Belgium) (Sophie.Bontemps@uclouvain.be) and Alexandra (Sasha) Tyukavina from University of Maryland (atyukav@umd.edu) if you are interested in contributing or if you have any suggestions regarding the proposed outline (e.g. adding, removing or restructuring chapters).
