The aim of Applied Physical Geography is to apply skills and knowledge from physical geography to non-academic fields. A main focus will be placed on socially relevant topics such as the threats facing natural resources (especially water), as well as the availability and sustainable use thereof, while applying the latest data processing tools (e.g., artificial intelligence, machine learning). The new professor of applied physical geography will link university research and education with practical applications, preparing the students for future professional responsibilities. As such, the holder of the professorship should not only have a broad range of interdisciplinary skills, but should also have a strong professional network in place.

The successful applicant will cover research and teaching in the field of applied physical geography, environmental hydrology, and resource management.
