JOB DESCRIPTION

Wageningen University is lookinig for an innovative and dynamic scholar to lead the Land Use Planning Chair Group (0.8 - 1.0 fte) at Wageningen University & Research.

The Land Use Planning Chair Group (LUP) develops knowledge and expertise, and teaches on spatial planning and accompanying legislative and financial instruments that contribute to deliberate modifications of landscape features. The Chair Group has a specific focus on landscapes, in which cities are situated in a matrix of densely populated and intersected agricultural and (semi-)natural areas.

The new chair holder of LUP is expected to further advance an innovative research and education programme at Wageningen University, acquire research funding and teach and supervise students and PhD candidates. LUP closely collaborates in research and education with the Chair Group Landscape Architecture; together they form the Group of Landscape Architecture and Spatial Planning (LSP). They take advantage of synergism between both fields and operate as one administrative group.

The LUP chair holder will develop an innovative and internationally relevant research programme, drawing on the expertise of the current team. The chair holder will ensure the group continues to grow into a supportive working environment for young and established academics. The successful applicant will also further strengthen the Chair Group's profile in national and international networks, as well as effectively and constructively manage the Group's internal processes.

REQUIREMENTS

The successful candidate:
  • Has profound knowledge of spatial planning, with a focus on landscape dynamics and receptive to both the social and natural sciences perspective;
  • Has a proven scientific track record in spatial planning, with a vision for future research and education, and shows the capacity to produce work of recognised international quality;
  • Enjoys managing professionals and demonstrates an inspiring, collegial, and unifying leadership style characterized by the passion to develop people, to build teams, and to create synergy;
  • Possesses a proven capacity of acquiring, leading and managing externally-funded research projects;
  • Is an inspiring teacher and supervisor, with proven ability to develop courses at Bachelor, Master, and PhD level, and with an interest and capacity to innovate teaching methods;
  • Holds a PhD degree in Spatial Planning or a related discipline;
  • Has affinity with transdisciplinary research and works on policy-relevant issues.
