Postdoctoral Research Fellow (m/f/d)
Applications are invited for a full-time position starting as soon as possible, with a contract up to 4 years. The salary is commensurate with TV-AVH / TVöD EG 13. Employment is contingent on the award of third-party funding.
The research fellow will contribute to a project in the CRC 990 (Collaborative Research Center 990, EFForTS, http://www.uni-goettingen.de/efforts) that investigates the ecological-socioeconomic trade-offs in different land-use systems in Sumatra, Indonesia. Specifically, the project will (1) develop a comprehensive accounting framework (Environmental and Social Accounting Matrix) to aggregate, synthesise, and link existing and future EFForTS data on socio-economic and ecosystem functions at the level of a local rural economy, and (2) evaluate the effects of land-use change scenarios and policies (e.g. certifications schemes, land management regulations) on ecological and socio-economic functions and on the trade-offs between them. The research fellow will be based in Hamburg, but will travel to the University of Göttingen, where the CRC is based, frequently. Further, some field research in Indonesia may be required.
The successful candidate will • collaborate with the different teams of the CRC to establish an integrated socio-economic-ecological database, • analyse and compare Environmental and Social Accounting Matrices, e.g. by applying multiplier analyses, • pursue a targeted publication strategy, • be an active member of the GIGA, affiliated to the Research Programme “Growth and Development” and its Institute of Asian Studies • conduct research-based knowledge transfer.
Your qualifications: • Outstanding doctorate in economics or agricultural economics (can be completed in the first year of this position) • Relevant academic record, experience in inter-disciplinary work • Knowledge on Indonesia and/or the relevant agro-ecological systems (oil palm, rubber) is an advantage • Excellent quantitative methodological skills, ideally relevant modelling experience • English-language proficiency Part-time options will be considered, if so desired by the successful candidate.
