The Natural Capital Singapore project aims at assessing Singapore’s ecosystem services for supporting sustainable urban planning decisions. The team involves ecologists, economists, social scientists, environmental modelers, and planners to make cities safer and more comfortable for their residents. The successful candidate will be hosted at the Singapore-ETH Centre in Singapore. Position starting as soon as possible until December 2020. In the frame of the Natural Capital Singapore project in the Future Cities Laboratory, applications are invited for a
PhD or Research Fellow in the Natural Capital Singapore
A core part of the project will be to develop a prototype decision-support tool to help planners to more easily assess the impacts of future development or ecosystem restoration, on the natural capital of Singapore. We are looking for a PhD candidate or Research Fellow in ecology, landscape ecology or biology to work on linking 3D plant models with plant functional traits and ecosystem services to be integrated in a decision support tool. The candidate will work in close cooperation with a software engineer to develop the tool.
The suitable candidate should have a MSc in Biology, Landscape Ecology, Environmental Sciences or Environmental Engineering, or related fields. He/She should be proficient in theory and methods of ecophysiology, community ecology, population biology, and computational biology. He/she should have good knowledge and skills in GIS software and spatial analyses, have good knowledge in point cloud processing software, and prior exposure to working with LIDAR data and visualization software. Responsible and able to work very independently, and fluent in both written and spoken English are required.
