Description

The Department of Environmental Studies in the Faculty of Arts and Science at New York University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The appointment will begin September 1, 2023, subject to administrative and budgetary approval.

We are interested in innovative, interdisciplinary scholars whose research is in Urban Ecology, broadly conceived. The position will be housed entirely within the Department of Environmental Studies, but is part of a broader cluster of recruitment efforts in Transforming Ecologies in Urban Environments that spans the departments of Environmental Studies and Biology in this year's searches and may expand to other departments. A primary aim of the cluster is to create a network for scholars working in these areas to collaborate across NYU. More information about this cluster and the broader cluster initiative can be found here and here.

The successful applicant(s) will be interdisciplinary scholars with an excellent record of research and publishing who are committed to educating undergraduates majoring in Environmental Studies and eventual graduate students in the PhD program in Environmental Studies, which is under development. We welcome candidates from a broad range of social science, physical science, and policy backgrounds (e.g., environmental studies, Earth science, urban studies, ecology, political science, sociology, economics, public policy, geography).
