The Department of Sociology in the University of Cambridge is seeking to appoint 3 full-time Postdoctoral Research Associates to join the 5-year ERC-funded project, Smart Forests: Transforming Environments into Social-Political Technologies, led by PI Professor Jennifer Gabrys. The Research Associates will review smart forests initiatives and technologies, undertake national and international fieldwork (contingent on travel guidance), contribute to participatory stakeholder events, and contribute to data analysis and dissemination activities for the project. The positions are each 42 months in duration.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 42 months in the first instance.

The Postdoctoral Research Associate will play a key role in contributing to the project and the overall research initiative. You will:

  • Contribute to the overall survey of smart forest initiatives
  • Contribute to the selection of case studies and co-lead and contribute to case studies
  • Aid in the development and hosting of participatory events
  • Contribute to the project website and other online project materials
  • Contribute to the design and running of project symposia
  • Contribute to project presentations and publications
  • Contribute to dissemination of research findings and research activities according to project's guidelines
  • Ensure compliance with all ERC grant requirements, including project reporting, data management and ethics

You may also choose, by arrangement, to participate in teaching and supervision in the Department of Sociology at both graduate and undergraduate levels.

Eligible candidates must have a PhD in Sociology or a closely related subject, with considerable knowledge of digital technologies, smart environments, and smart forest initiatives, ideally from an STS, digital media studies or environmental studies perspective.
