The National Socio-Environmental Synthesis Center (SESYNC) invites applications to our 7th annual Summer Institute, a short course on data and coding skills for socio-environmental synthesis.
The course will be held Tuesday, July 21, 2020 (optionally July 20 for participants new to computer programming) through Friday, July 24, 2020, at our facility in Annapolis, Maryland. We kindly ask that you explore the announcement (online at: http://sesync.us/cybersi) and share this opportunity with colleagues and departments that are especially strong in your field. Deadline: March 30, 2020.
Participants from several research teams will receive instruction on scripting complete data pipelines and implementing distributed workflows within the R + RStudio development environment. This course will combine lectures, hands-on computer labs, and project consultation designed to accelerate the adoption of cyber resources for all phases of data-driven research and dissemination.
Priority will be given to members of SESYNC science teams (i.e., participants in a Pursuit or Workshop funded by SESYNC). Remaining space will be awarded to teams of 2-4 researchers who are actively collaborating on problems at the intersection of humans and the environment that involve quantitative and/or qualitative data. Participants may be at any career stage, from graduate student to senior researcher/faculty, and from academic, government, or non-profit sectors. The course is designed for small teams and only one person from each team should begin the application process.
Our office sponsors travel, lodging, and meals for participants. All meetings are held at our facilities in Annapolis, MD.
